HIGHLANDER is truly an unforgettable experience. Through the HIGHLANDER walking journey, each participant becomes one with nature and begins to view life in a new way. The trail is a test for participants, but they’ll be able to conquer it while meeting new people and making use of all five senses on the journey. Because HIGHLANDER isn’t an event and there aren’t winners or losers Participants — even complete strangers — are encouraged to cheer each other on.

HIGHLANDER was created in Croatia in 2017 when three trio Jurica Barac Igor Mlinarevic and Andrej Mlinarevic have decided to share their passion and love of long-distance hiking. The series has since expanded into a global series that spans 15 countries, comprising Austria, France, Greece, Morocco, Slovenia, and the United Arab Emirates. Our goal is to inspire individuals to take on a hike and change their lives for the better both in terms of physical and mental health as well,” said HIGHLANDER Adventure’s co-founder and CEO Jurica Barac. This is the reason we are thrilled and proud to announce that HIGHLANDER is finally making its way to the American terrain. America is a land with stunning natural beauty and those who are looking to change their lives. This is the reason we are sure that the hiking trip for the long-distance HIGHLANDER will be a complete success.”

“HIGHLANDER is an extended-distance hiking experience for anyone looking to test their limits and learn more about living sustainably,” Barac added. “For this first event ever, HIGHLANDER will be held in America. HIGHLANDER event will be held in America and located in Big Bear Lake, California with its awe-inspiring scenery and breathtaking landscapes. Therefore, I would like to invite you to join us starting on the 27th of September to be a part of the change with us. “Thanks to our strategic partner in the world, Spartan Race, Visit Big Bear along with the HIGHLANDER crew that have worked on the project for months in order to bring our ‘Adventure of A Lifetime” to America. We’ll see you out on the trails!’ By 2021 Spartan The world’s most renowned endurance sports and extreme wellness brand identified HIGHLANDER’s potential in a partnership with a potential strategic stakeholder making it possible to bring this unique, long-distance adventure hiking sport to the U.S.

The mission, vision, and values of both brands are derived from the same source of building physical and mental resilience to make positive lifestyle modifications. “Spartan’s partnership with HIGHLANDER lets us encourage many more people across the globe to take part in physical activities they feel are out of their abilities”, added Spartan Race founder and CEO Joe De Sena. “This is about identifying our limits, and going beyond them.” Every HIGHLANDER event is a unique location including vast deserts mountain tops that are snowy and sandy dunes to pastures and lakes which are appealing to the modern-day nomads. Participants are invited to ditch their smartphones and take in the natural world and join the global HIGHLANDER group of hikers.

“The HIGHLANDER approach strikes the perfect balance between guided trekking and self-sufficient exploration,” said Peter Watson, acclaimed travel writer photographer, writer as well as HIGHLANDER ambassador. “With the many logistical issues handled I am able to enjoy the freedom of walking on my own with the added benefit of having less weight to carry and not stressing about meals or fuel as well as planning routes or searching for campsites that are suitable every day. Instead, I can pay attention to the trail ahead and take in the beautiful scenery.”

“HIGHLANDER will also provide a fantastic opportunity to meet other like-minded individuals and have a social time on the trails,” Watson added. “Even though I’m a solo hiker, others are always within reach and always ready to stop to talk. In the evenings, there’s a lot of socializing where trekkers share stories around the campfire. I’ve kept in contact with many of the people I met along the way and we’re planning more HIGHLANDER hikes.”
